Dos Canciones de la Luna (2009-10; 2020)

First composed for solo piano in 2009 and 2010, with a mediocre attempt at orchestrating No. 1 in 2010, I revisited Dos Canciones de la Luna in 2019 when my friend, Rama Kumaran – who is an outstanding flutist/singer/banjo player/storyteller approached me about putting on a couple concerts. He asked if I would compose something for the concert, so I dug up these two old pieces that had never been performed and reworked them as duets for piano and flute. The title is somewhat referential to the nickname my mother gave me as an infant – Luna.
