An echo that doesn’t rhyme
Six pianos surrounding a seventh piano are bowed in an antiphonal harmonic progression that alternates between chords built on the harmonic series and their corresponding subharmonic series. A soloist bows the central piano on common tones between the harmonic and subharmonic chords. Six pianists are stationed at the six perimeter pianos; playing and plucking a constellation of high notes at the keyboard and inside the piano on the non-speaking lengths of the strings and occasionally adding low cosmic pitches to the windchime textures. A solo pianist stationed at the center piano uses three EBows to complement the surrounding harmonies.
